CL was established in June 2005 and its origin dates to the early 1990’s, formerly part of ECON (now Poyry Norge), a leading Scandinavian consultancy. CLN has geographical focus which include Africa, Russia, Central Asia, Latin America, and Middle East where the company has access to network of partners and government contacts.
As part of the mission to upscale Climate mitigation activities globally, CL interest in CLN was transferred to CL-Invest, a “hands-on” climate investment company based in Oslo, Norway but global focus. CL-Invest was founded as a result of a de-merger of Carbon Limits AS in 2021. The company continues the business of carbon financing and monetising CL and CLN provide consulting services related to climate change issues and extends technical services to CL-Invest and indirectly to its clients. Incorporated in Nigeria and based in Lagos, CLN is involved in sectors including upstream oil and gas, electricity, and renewable energy (alternative fuels such as biomass). From inception, CLN has been actively involved in implementing projects that reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions under UN Kyoto Protocol (the Clean Development Mechanism, CDM).
The company has been actively involved in the Paris Agreement implementation process, measurement reporting and verification (MRV) system set up in the oil and gas sector, exploring carbon market opportunities for both public and private entities and has expertise in developing Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation plan on a sectoral basis. The company is focused on developing projects that reduce GHG emissions, energy market study and exploring opportunities for the carbon market in Nigeria, Western and Central Africa. CLN offers specific and tailored workshops / capacity building services to support private and public institutions; improving their skills and competencies on NDC development especially on the impacts these will have on various company’s carbon assessment for mitigation, developing climate-based mitigation projects and other climate-related issues.
